The sold-out Savory Salt Lake 2015 took place on Friday, May 22 at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City. This popular event brings together public radio listeners and area foodies to taste the best of Utah’s top restaurants and culinary establishments.
This year, celebrity judges included Ty Burrell (“Phil Dunphy” on television’s Modern Family) and his chef wife Holly Burrell along with Radio West’s Doug Fabrizio and food nerd Vanessa Chang.
Vendors for the evening from around the valley and mountain areas created savory and sweet samples. Participants included:
- MacCool’s Public House
- Mazza Middle Eastern Cuisine
- R&R Barbecue
- Riverhorse on Main
- Salt Bistro
- Salt Lake Culinary Center
- SLC POP
- Tin Angel Cafe
- The Tree Room at Sundance Mountain Resort
- Cakes de Fleur
- Culinary Crafts
- Desire Desserts
- Les Madeleines
- Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at City Creek
Libations for the evening were provided by Beehive Distilling, Ogden’s Own Distillery and Squatters.
The event, held annually, raises funds for the KUER station by celebrating public radio culinary arts and local foods. It also provides friendly competition amongst a wide variety of culinary talents in SLC. Once again, R&R Barbecue took home the Audience Choice Award, maintaining their victory streak enjoyed at previous Savory Salt Lake Events. Judge’s Choice went to Eva for their Beef Meatballs with Rioja Sauce. In the sweet category, Desire Desserts took both prizes.
