Amanda & Ty’s Thornton backyard wedding blended the comfort of home with Italian-inspired details. From heartfelt vows to dancing under the stars, their day was timeless, fun, and welcoming.
From Grizzly Rose to “I Do”
Their story began at Denver’s Grizzly Rose, a country bar where they first met for the first time. Years later, Ty proposed on a family trip to Grand Lake, kneeling in the snow during an ice-fishing outing. Along the way they shared many adventures, including a trip to Italy that shaped the romantic details woven into their wedding.
A Backyard Wedding with Italian Vibes
Choosing her childhood home as the venue felt natural to Amanda. She described it as “magical,” filled with memories she wanted to honor. On the wedding day, the backyard was transformed with three white tents, a central dance floor, and mauve, plum, blush, and white details. Guests enjoyed Italian favorites from Cranelli’s, including pasta, salad, garlic knots, Aperol spritzes, wine, and cannolis, and a cake from Gateaux.
Time with the Bride Squad
Amanda started her day with her bridesmaids, wedding helpers, and family members in the bridal party. Everyone wore comfortable, matching black satin PJs with a white set reserved for the bride. Amanda thanked all of her special people and gave them gifts with notecards attached. Everyone read their notes, got teary-eyed, exchanged hugs, and put on the beautiful necklaces she had given them.
A First Look with Dad
Also, before the ceremony, Amanda shared a first look with her dad, Dan. It gave them a quiet pause together before the rest of the wedding day unfolded. Dan didn’t just see the dress. He saw his little girl, ready to be married. With steady hands, he fastened her pearl necklace carefully and securely around her neck.
A Grandfather’s Touch
Amanda’s grandfather, Jim, also had a special role during the morning. Wearing his favorite engineering tie, he joined the groomsmen and helped them with their ties. That small act carried a lot of meaning, reflecting the love and connection that shaped the day.
Vows with Intention
Soon after, Amanda and Ty stood together to exchange personally written vows. Amanda chose to go first, breaking with tradition so she could stay composed while speaking her promises to Ty. The choice reflected the honesty and care that carried through the rest of the celebration.
Unique Traditions and Personal Details
Amanda and Ty found ways to make the day feel true to them. The ring warming began during cocktail hour, with guests passing the wedding bands among each other and offering blessings. It continued into the ceremony with immediate family, adding layers of meaning to the vows.
The custom-built bar, crafted together by Amanda’s dad and Ty, became a centerpiece. A neon sign reading “you + me” lit up the front, while napkins printed with fun facts about the couple sat on top. A sign reading “A Guy and a Girl Met at a Bar” gave a playful nod to their first meeting at the Grizzly Rose. Another sign, “Our pawrents got married, drinks on us,” introduced two signature cocktails named after their dogs: the Jax Spritz and the Opie Mule.
The cocktail napkins themselves became a conversation piece. Each one listed fun facts about Amanda and Ty. Both drove silver TDI Jettas as their first cars. Amanda met Ty while he was living in the same neighborhood where she grew up. She also turned him into a wine enthusiast.
As friends and family found their seats, they discovered one more surprise. At each place setting was an envelope labeled “Whole LOTTO Love” with scratch-off tickets. Together, these playful touches added humor, warmth, and a sense of welcome to the day.
Colorado Backyard Celebration
After dinner and toasts, Amanda and Ty visited each table to briefly chat and take photos with their guests. When golden hour arrived, a light rain had started to fall. They managed a few quick portraits outdoors before returning under cover. The rain cut their time short, but still allowed for a few moments together. By then, the storm had shifted the evening inside. The cake cutting took place while guests waited for the skies to clear.
Once the storm ended, everyone headed back outside to celebrate under the string lights and stars. Amanda and Ty shared their first dance to The Painter by Cody Johnson. Amanda and her dad started with Landslide by Fleetwood Mac before surprising guests with a lively turn into Love Shack by the B-52s. Ty and his mom danced to Born Yesterday by Eric Burnett, a tender moment that balanced the evening’s energy with quiet emotion.
Later in the evening, Amanda’s grandparents, Pat and Jim took the spotlight during the anniversary dance. Married for 61 years, they were honored as the longest-married couple in attendance, a beautiful reminder of enduring love and commitment as Amanda and Ty begin their own journey.
Glow sticks, disco ball helmets, and DJ lighting carried the celebration late into the night. The dance floor stayed alive until the very end. It was a fitting finale for a wedding Amanda and Ty described in three words: timeless, fun, and welcoming.
