Some wedding days are memorable because of the atmosphere. Others stay with you because of the people at the center of it. Kimberly and Caleb’s was both.
About the Couple
Their relationship began with faith, commitment, and a willingness to make long distance work. The two met when Kimberly was completing an internship at Caleb’s parents’ church in Illinois. He started stopping by to visit, then kept finding reasons to come back, and before long, he asked her out.
They dated throughout the remainder of Kimberly’s internship, and Caleb planned a Fourth of July proposal before she moved back to Colorado. He had a plan and everything fell into place, except the perfect ring he had selected with sapphires that reminded him of her eyes was delayed.
Rather than scrap the moment, he let Kimberly in on the surprise, and together they found a substitute through Facebook Marketplace. The proposal happened, she moved to Colorado engaged, and they spent the following months in a long distance relationship eagerly looking forward to their wedding date.
Meaningful Details and Family Heirlooms
The spring color palette of dusty blue, cream, and light yellow accents set a warm tone for the day. Floral elements wove through the wedding from start to finish: Caleb’s floral cufflinks and dusty blue pocket square, Kimberly’s blue floral hairpieces and blue lace heels.
Some of the most meaningful details, though, were the ones that carried family history.
While getting ready, Kimberly received a rosary from her grandmother that had been in her family for nearly a century. Her mother gifted her a blue handkerchief that served as both her “something borrowed” and “something blue,” along with a bracelet she wore throughout the day. Together, these heirlooms connected generations and added quiet weight to an already emotional morning.
The First Look
Before guests arrived, Kimberly and Caleb shared a first look beside the church bell outside Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Denver.
It was one of the few quiet moments of the day. They had a chance to see each other, take a breath, and simply be together before the celebration began.
Afterward, the wedding party joined them for a group photo before everyone moved inside for family portraits in front of the chancel ahead of the ceremony.
A Traditional Lutheran Ceremony
For Kimberly, Mt. Zion Lutheran Church is much more than a wedding venue. It is her church home, a place she finds genuinely beautiful and one that is deeply connected to her faith. It was an easy choice for the ceremony.
The ceremony welcomed nearly 200 guests and followed a traditional Lutheran order of service, including the procession, Matins, the Order of Holy Matrimony, and the introduction of the newly married couple. Rev. Jared Melius officiated, with Rev. Kent Umbarger preaching and Rachel Andersen providing music on the organ.
The service intentionally reflected Kimberly and Caleb’s priorities. Family, faith, and community ran through every part, and the focus stayed exactly where they wanted it: on their commitment to one another and the people who had walked alongside them.
The Reception at Beautiful Savior
Guests gathered at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and School for the reception, a location with deep meaning for the bride. Kimberly grew up attending church there, went through the school, and now serves as the full-time All-Subject Teacher for the 5th–8th Grade. It is a place full of history for her.
The reception was held in the school gymnasium, though guests would hardly have recognized the space. Patricia Boniek and her husband Mani, longtime family friends who specialize in corporate event lighting, transformed the room entirely. Black draping softened the gym walls, blue and purple uplighting created a warm atmosphere, and soft white spotlights added depth throughout, turning a familiar school space into an elegant venue.
Cultivate Kitchen Co. served a buffet lunch of pasta and salad, followed by Prosecco toasts to the newlyweds.
Family, Celebration, and a Birthday
When Kimberly and Caleb described their wedding in three words, they chose joyful, family, and celebration. Those themes showed up everywhere.
Guests shared heartfelt toasts, the couple shared their first dance, and both parent dances highlighted the family relationships that had helped shape their lives. One especially memorable moment came when the room paused to sing Happy Birthday to Caleb’s sister, who had graciously agreed to share her birthday with the wedding day. The surprise recognition brought plenty of smiles.
The general dancing started with an anniversary dance as couples departed the floor until only the longest married couple remained. Family and friends danced in celebration together, which was exactly the kind of joyful atmosphere Kimberly and Caleb had imagined.
A Honeymoon and a New Beginning
After celebrating with family and friends, Kimberly and Caleb headed out on a driving honeymoon through Montana before settling in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they will begin married life together.
It felt like a fitting start for a couple whose relationship was built on visits, distance, travel, and commitment. Their wedding day reflected not only where they had been, but the future they are heading into together.
Kimberly and Caleb, thank you for inviting me to document such a meaningful day. It was a privilege to witness the love, faith, and joy that surrounded you both. Congratulations and blessings on your marriage.
