Romancing the Rain

Just as it did ten years ago at their wedding, the Colorado weather provided an abundance of rain, or luck, for Mary and Sean at their vow renewal.

In the time between two separate downpours, the couple managed to exchange vows and exchange rings in the presence of family and friends.

The celebration marked their enduring love and commitment over the years. It also gave them a chance to do things a little differently than when they first married in their early twenties.

About the Couple

Mary and Sean met in high school and married shortly thereafter. These sweethearts now have three children, two boys and a girl, aged from 10 months to 7 years old.

For their 10-year anniversary, they wanted an intimate family event. The details and choices, like Mary’s new dress, reflected their more mature selves.

However, the one thing they couldn’t change was the rainy weather. It decided to make a repeat guest appearance on their vow renewal day.

About The Starkey Mansion

The vow renewal took place at the historic Starkey Mansion that housed the couple and their out-of-town guests. Mary incorporated a vintage vibe of neutrals that served as the perfect backdrop for the pops of colorful textures and flowers in the Starkey Mansion Garden.

A Bit of History

The four-story Georgian Starkey Mansion has a formal Queen Anne style that is furnished with both modern art and furniture. From the mansion’s front steps, you can glimpse the sunshine reflecting off the golden dome of Colorado’s State Capitol building.

The mansion was built in 1901 by Lucius Lucius Montrose Cuthbert and his wife, Gertrude Hill Berger Cuthbert. Gertrude was the sister of the Denver socialite Mrs. Crawford Hill. As one of Denver’s “Sacred 36” members, Mrs. Crawfor Hill belonged to an exclusive social club that allowed its members access to the inner rankings of New York and Rhode Island societies.

With its superbly decorated rooms, architecture, and beautiful garden, the Starkey Mansion is a dream for events (and photographers!) inside and out. There is no shortage of space, colors, and texture to explore in your scenes.

Final Words

Mary and Sean, your romantic spirit and love for each other will always outshine any rainy day! I loved seeing how the two of you maintain the essence of being a couple in the midst of caring for your three littles. That’s no small feat! It’s an honor to have been a part of this intimate gathering with family and friends in a special place in Denver. I wish you many more years of celebrating this beautiful sometimes messy thing we call life and much joy in the next chapters of your love story. Cheers!
